I am in love with paint, and I am so fortunate to live in an area of natural beauty. I combine the 2 to make color saturated, highly textured oil paintings.
Color and texture, light and dark.
I paint completely with palette knives and the results are glorious areas made by paint pulled over paint. Or scrape marks that reveal what is underneath. I am completely surprised! It is rarely what I thought it might be.
The paints are teasers and just when I think I have figured out how to create this or that - I find that it is best for me to give over control and let the paint and knives lead me.
No philosophy here. I want to create beautiful paintings that you will look at again and again.
I am Asheville, North Carolina artist, Nan Davis. I was born in Greenville, South Carolina and lived there until I was 18. My Bachelor of Fine Art is from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.
2023 UPDATE
I am taking a sabbatical for at least the next year. Plans are to see new things, have new experiences and see what calls me. Stay tuned for new things...
